Proposal for a new house adjacent Bronte Park for a young expat family with terrific views over the park and Bronte Beach.

Client’s emotional brief was for a formally focussed, minimalist, crisp and delineated architecture, with a ‘less is more’ attitude, that also encouraged a sense of warm, presence and intrigue in the work.

Therefore, a simple, bold and clear tectonic vocabulary was embraced, along with a constant reminder of one’s location and it’s sense of environmental drama, by framing and emphasising a curated exposure to the elements and views beyond.

The design is founded on principles of contextual integration, transparency and geometric clarity, qualities that are reflected in its courtyard plan with its nested and interpenetrating volumes, and its horizontal and vertical organization of space using subtle axial and geometric shifts.
