Extensive remodelling of the existing house for a well-travelled and vivacious young family.
Continuing from the work based on drawings of Bruce Stafford, we remodelled the interior and exterior style of the house, adding a new first floor, garage studios, along with a complete reworking of the interiors.
Working closely with the client, we explored freer ideas for coastal living, within a gentrified neighbourhood, in a great setting – referencing both the glamour and simplicity of Christian Liagre and Ilse Crawford, amongst others, via the lens of Mediterranean and middle-eastern resort lifestyles.
The client’s emotional brief was to provide a grand mansion experience appropriate to setting with a sensual ‘lazy lux’ agenda. This was architecturally achieved through exploring ideas of always moving ‘through and beyond’ the space, the simplicity within the coastal grandness, and the luxury of an open environment enlivened by sun and light– applying simple but supple geometries, coupled with a sophisticated use of materials and lighting.
